Spring is Here! Skip the Allergies This Season!

I used to suffer from Hay Fever Allergies every. single. year. I was absolutely awful. I can remember calling my dad crying because I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t breath, my eyes would be swollen shut in the mornings and nothing was helping! I eventually quit going to the doctor for it because I knew I was going to get a nasal spray, and told to take Zyrtec. At one point I got myself hooked on Afrin, that works, but you become completely dependent on it.

One of the awesome things I noticed after changing my diet to a cleaner, and nutritionally dense diet, was that my allergies basically disappeared. The main culprit, dairy! (for me, this won’t be the case for everyone) So not only did I cut dairy completely but I also was drinking way more water which helps tremendously with seasonal allergies! Once your body is dehydrated, the histamine production increases, which causes the body to have the same trigger symptoms as seasonal allergies. Drinking plenty of water will help prevent the higher histamine production and alleviate the allergy symptoms. I also added in some supplements to help, probiotics, vitamin D, essential oils in diffuser, saline spray, neil medi and drinking tea with natural local honey.

  How dairy can wreck havoc on your allergies

Dairy products contain casein, a mucus-forming agent. It is the dominant protein in milk and other dairy items. Foods such as milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream and butter all contain casein. It has a glue-like texture and histamine-creating properties, both of which cause increased mucus production and nasal congestion.

WATER- I mean this one is pretty obvious, the better hydrated you are the better your body will work to protect itself.

              

PROBOTICS – Probiotics are live microorganisms that are good for your health. These beneficial bacteria and helpful yeast can be found naturally in many fermented foods. Probiotics also live in and on the human body and help the body function properly. In healthy individuals, probiotics can help promote optimal digestive and immune health.                             I love Smarty Pants because it’s a no brainier. I know I can trust their products. Vitamin D3- Research shows that vitamin D exerts profound effects on immune functions involved in the development and course of allergies. A study published in the journal Clinical and Experimental Allergy found that correcting vitamin D levels in those who are deficient has beneficial and even protective effects in patients with allergies, as well as children at risk for developing them.


Essential oils and Diffuser – Using a diffuser with essential oils has proven to help with, relaxation and sleep, elevates mood, wards, off illness, breath easier, relieve pain, and improve cognitive function. I love to have mine on at all times, just remember to use distilled water to lengthen the life of your diffuser! Use different oils for different symptoms, my favorite for seasonal allergies is, peppermint, tea tree, eucalyptus, and lemon.

Saline Spray – Has proven to clear congestion and helps moisturizes sinus passages. It is preservative and drug free, and does not damage the delicate nasal tissue.

 

 

 

NeilMed Sinus Rinse –
I’m obsessed with this product! Like the saline spray it moisturizes the nasal passages but it also clears you out completely but forcing water through your complete sinus cavity! Trust me you will be able to breath and feel so much better after using this sinus rinse!

 

Drinking Tea – Stinging Nettle is effective against seasonal allergy symptoms and can be used to treat anaphylaxis, migraines, cluster headaches and allergic arthritis. These benefits come from the plant’s anti-inflammatory qualities, as well as the histamine it contains, which, ironically, can be beneficial in counteracting severe allergic attacks. While dandelion root contain fiber, vitamins A, C, and K, calcium, iron, minerals such as magnesium, and potassium. Dandelion root offers even more medicinal potential, it’s used as a general liver cleaner, blood purifier and diuretic.
